President Donald Trump “personally delivered” his family Bible to the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., on Monday.
“The Bible is also an important part of the American story; that’s why I’m delighted to announce it: Just moments ago, I personally delivered the Trump family Bible given to me by my mother,” Trump said in a speech to the White House Religious Liberty Commission, which aired live on Newsmax and the Newsmax2 streaming platform.
“I remember the time she gave it to me, but it was used in both my inaugurations and also displayed at the museum, and I guess it will now be displayed right in the heart of our nation’s capital, right here.
“And it’s an honor. That’s an honor.”
Trump noted his checkered recent past with Washington’s most famous network of museums.
Trump said he had a “little problem with the Smithsonian” because he wanted “a little more positivity” about the country.
“What about the good things we’ve done?” Trump said.
He has previously complained on social media that Smithsonian museums focused too much on “how horrible our country is, how bad slavery was.”
“Big changes are being made at the Smithsonian,” he said.
The president was speaking to the Religious Liberty Commission he established earlier this year to advise the White House.
“America was founded on faith,” Trump said.
“We’re defending our rights and restoring our identity as a nation under God,” he added.
